Professor Jason Sharples FTSE
Professor of Bushfire Dynamics, School of Science, UNSW Canberra
Professor Jason Sharples is a mathematical scientist and internationally recognised expert in dynamic bushfire behaviour and extreme bushfire development. He is Director of the UNSW Bushfire Research Group, which is dedicated to improving our understanding of the fundamental processes that drive bushfire development and their relation to firefighter and community safety. Jason has led several Australian Research Council and Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre projects and is currently involved in various national and international wildfire research projects. These projects consider various aspects of extreme and dynamic fire propagation, the development of large conflagrations and bushfire risk management. A key feature of his research is the use of advanced numerical and computational modelling to understand the complex dynamics that drive the development of extreme bushfire events.
