Tour Description

This year’s Kangaroo Island themes of interest include exploring the region’s:
— Biodiversity and conservation
— Kangaroo Island landforms and geology
— Agriculture and forestry
— New industries
— Marine bioresources and industries
— Marine parks and iconic fauna
— Ecotourism economy
— Early European settlement and industries; and Bushfire, recovery and community resilience
— Local regional subject matter experts (SMEs) will be on hand to introduce and explain the natural and industry history of the island

Each year the South Australian ATSE Division undertakes a regional tour to explore and increase its awareness of South Australian regional industry, science, sustainability initiatives and communities. This year we are visiting Kangaroo Island over Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd November 2020. At this stage, 24 Fellows and partners have expressed interest in participating.

There is still the opportunity for additional SA and NT Fellows, partners and friends to participate.

Tickets $570. This includes travel from Cape Jervis and return, bus transport on the Island, two nights’ accommodation, one dinner, two breakfasts, two boxed lunches and all admissions.

All Fellows and partners who wish to attend (including those who have previously expressed interest) will need to register and pay for the tour following the instructions below.

Tour Description

Mr Andrew Heinrich, Chair of the Kangaroo Island Landscape Board (formally NRM Board) has graciously agreed to join us for the Tour dinner and give the keynote address focussing on the island and its community. In addition, visits to a local winery, major tourism experiences and community interaction are scheduled.

Travel arrangements for the tour are:

— Travel to Cape Jervis by car Friday 20th pm. Suggest we could coordinate car-pooling.

— Cars in secure lock up (out of hours) Cape Jervis.

— Sealink Ferry Cape Jervis-Penneshaw departs 4.00 pm arriving 4.50 pm Friday 20th, book-in NO LATER than 3.30 pm.

— Sealink bus (51-seater) all transport on the Island.

— Sealink Ferry Penneshaw-Cape Jervis departs 2.30 pm arriving 3.20 pm Sunday 22nd. Book-in NO LATER than 2.00 pm

A detailed regional tour schedule and background information on the areas and industries being visited will be provided once final numbers are known.
