WEBINAR

Tuesday 27 July

1.00pm-2.00pm AEST

Fellows are invited to join ATSE’s Industry and Innovation Policy Forum at a round table discussion on Australia’s Industry Growth Centres, which support the Modern Manufacturing Strategy. The Industry Growth Centres Initiative is a strategic, sector-based approach to growing our industries and creating jobs.

The government-funded Growth Centres are driving innovation, productivity and competitiveness in 6 key growth industry sectors: Advanced Manufacturing (AMGC),  Cyber Security (AustCyber), Food and Agribusiness (FIAL), Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals (MTPConnect), Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) and Oil, Gas and Energy Resources (NERA).

The current public discourse centres around uncertainty about the future of the six Growth Centres following reporting by InnovationAus. There however appears to be a lack of understanding between these Industry Growth Centres and the research community in how both are working to support and enhance the other and what the future may hold.

At this webinar hosted by ATSE’s Industry and Innovation Policy Forum, Fellows will be provided with an overview of the current public discourse and an overview of the Growth Centre model. Fellows are then invited to join a facilitated discussion about their positive impacts to research, industry collaborations and commercialisation, and what future initiatives can learn from them.

Aims for the event

• Hold a round table discussion to gather views from the ATSE Fellowship in response to two questions:
1. What positive impacts have the Growth Centres had?
2. What can future initiatives learn from the Growth Centre model?

• Produce a short report summarising responses to these questions to inform public discourse.
