Weekend Away to Newcastle
Thursday 31st March – Sunday 3rd April 2022
Following the unfortunate cancellation of this trip this year because of COVID restrictions, we are very pleased to be able reschedule the visit for 2022.
We are delighted to invite you to a wonderful 3-night excursion to the city of Newcastle, NSW. Attendees are expected to provide or arrange for their own transport. Accommodation, meals and drinks, parking and activities are included in the cost. The accommodation will be at the Novotel, Newcastle Beach. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet with our Newcastle ATSE Fellows.
Local Newcastle Fellows are also encouraged to attend the Friday dinner, Sunday winery lunch AND technical tours.
A range of proposed activities may change subject to confirmation and scheduling constraints. A list of many options for activities and excursions beyond the scheduled program will be provided. Possible activities include:
- Visit to University of Newcastle, Institute for Energy and Resources
- Innovation hubs & platforms: Hone, Eighteen04, Blue Zone Group
- Dinner with Newcastle ATSE Fellows at the Newcastle Club
- Newcastle Port & Coal Loader
- Cultural visits – Museum and Art Gallery, Nobby’s Lighthouse, Fort Scratchley
- Hunter Valley winery including lunch on Sunday 3rd April

Thursday 31 March
Afternoon arrival, dinner at Novotel Newcastle Beach Hotel
Friday 1 April
Two technical visits (morning and afternoon) with lunch in between. If the group is too large, we might need to split in two, providing the facilities visited are happy to manage this arrangement.
Dinner and with Guest speaker at the Newcastle Club
Saturday 2 April
Saturday Port of Newcastle tour and refreshments.
Afternoon free activities – galleries, walks, museums
Dinner at Rustica
Sunday 3 April
Hotel check out.
Winery visit and lunch in the Hunter Valley – RidgeView winery

Registrations, including full payment, 5:00pm Sunday 23 January 2022. Numbers are strictly limited, so please book early to reserve your place. Payment, your full names, addresses and contact details will be required at the time of booking.
CANCELLATION POLICY
After 17 March – No refund of accommodation costs
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Participants are advised to check their insurance cover and consider purchasing travel insurance. If you choose not to take out travel insurance, neither ATSE nor any other host party are responsible for any of your cancellation fees, lost baggage, ambulance, medivac, and other costs normally claimable as part of Australian domestic travel insurance.
COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS
The excursion will be subject to any ongoing COVID-19 safety plans. If restrictions prevent any Sydney-based Fellows from traveling to Newcastle, the event will be cancelled and all costs will be refunded. Vulnerable or immune-compromised persons should seek their own advice on attendance. There may be requirements to present proof of vaccination from the hotel or restaurants.
