Speaker: Mr David Chandler OAM, NSW Building Commissioner
David Chandler has been appointed as NSW Building Commissioner by Premier Berejiklian, as part of the Government’s commitment to implementing the biggest overhaul to building laws in the State’s history.
Ms Berejiklian said “We know there are national challenges affecting the industry, but this new appointment will play a key role in protecting NSW homeowners and driving critical reforms and lifting building standards across NSW”.
David has had more than 40 years’ experience in the building and construction industry in Australia and Asia Pacific. He has hands on experience in the delivery of public and private infrastructure, construction and urban renewal, with delivery of Canberra’s Parliament House and Melbourne’s South Bank featured on his CV. He is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics at WSU. David has long promoted the transformation of the industry to a genuinely customer-centric focus.
David has the reputation of being a plain speaker. He tells us that he intends to set those present a challenge: “to earn a seat at the table to help turn this around will require more than an expected right. Key players will need to be part of an unprecedented customer focused micro reform of an industry still grounded in the 20th Century.”
