CommBank partners with ATSE to expand STEM scholarship opportunities

CommBank is partnering with the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering to fund two additional scholarships in the celebrated Elevate: Boosting diversity in STEM program.

Commonwealth Bank is partnering with the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering to fund two additional scholarships in the celebrated Elevate: Boosting diversity in STEM program. These scholarships, starting in 2027, are for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and non-binary people studying undergraduate degrees in computer science, data engineering and cyber security.

Over the past four years, Elevate has provided financial support, skills development, networking and professional development support to more than 500 women and non-binary people studying STEM degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Graduates have entered industry careers, mentored their peers and communities, developed new technologies, and are well on the way to becoming the next generation of STEM leaders at a time when Australia needs their contributions more than ever.

The Elevate program helps women and non-binary people build fulfilling and productive STEM careers. By working with one of Australia’s largest and most trusted companies, we are showing scholars all the places their science, technology and engineering studies can take them.

Through this unique program, CommBank will support scholars to expand their networks and build opportunities for fulfilling technology careers in industry.

ATSE Acting CEO Peter Derbyshire said: “The program helps women and non-binary people build fulfilling and productive STEM careers. By working with one of Australia’s largest companies, we are showing scholars all the places their science, technology and engineering studies can take them.

“Every week scholars tell us about the change that Elevate has made to their lives. This industry partnership reinforces the value of investing in our future workforce and will grow opportunities and impact for the scholars.”

Commonwealth Bank's Steven Collins, Product Owner, First Nations Careers, said: “We are proud to partner with such a highly regarded technology scholarship program to bring more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and non-binary people pursuing studies in technology.
