Hands-on science kits reach 21 more Australian schools
ATSE provides free science education kits to schools through Round 2 of the highly regarded STELR Fund.
Students in 21 schools across Australia will get the chance to build solar cars, explore renewable energy and design sustainable homes, thanks to a science education program supporting schools with limited access to classroom resources.
The STELR Fund of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering has announced the latest recipients of its hands-on science and technology kits, with philanthropic support helping bring classroom-tested equipment and teaching resources to schools around the country.
This latest round of funding brings the total number of schools supported to 47, covering nearly every state and territory and thousands of students in every corner of the country. Teachers said, “a STELR kit would open doors for students who have rarely had access to these opportunities, empowering them to see themselves as capable scientists and problem solvers.”
STELR aims to make science and technology education available to all students around Australia, particularly those with higher student disadvantage and less resourcing who would not normally have access to science teaching resources. Now in its 16th year, the program is in more than 1000 schools around the country, but many more students can still benefit from increased access to a high-quality science and technology education.
A STELR kit would open doors for students who have rarely had access to these opportunities, empowering them to see themselves as capable scientists and problem solvers.
The STELR kits and their associated free-to-download teaching resources support educators just as much as their students. Particularly for those teaching out of area or with limited resources, these reliable, expandable and multifunctional kits are a significant benefit for creating engaging science classrooms. STELR kits distributed to schools today will continue to be used around the country for many years to come.
