The Academy is pleased to have the opportunity to comment upon the discussion paper that is focused on the $50million data storage component of the Super Science Initiative.

The Academy notes that in regard to the Implementation Models, ‘cloud computing” is mentioned in regard to:

  1. Model 1 – New Peak National Capability;
  2. Model 2 – Regional Strength; and
  3. By implication, Model 3 – Industry Partnerships, since Model 3 is a variant of both Models 1 and 2.

The Academy is preparing a report on Cloud Computing that makes a number of recommendations for the future development of this most important area of computing. The report is expected to be finalised shortly.

ATSE will make this report available to the Department and the Australian Research Collaboration Service. The Academy would be pleased to hold further discussions on the implications of its report on the $50million Super Science Investment in data storage.
