Biography at time of election

Alex Mclachlan has achieved distinction as a Management Consultant, specialising in the field of Engineering
project management. Following work in the Snowy Mountains Scheme, he joined P.A. Management Consultants and helped establish their Project Planning and Management Divison.
In 1973 he established his own company, Mclachlan Consultants, later the Mclachlan Group, now Australia's leading independent Project Management firm. Innovative and successful management has been provided for projects such as the Eastern Suburbs Railway and Westmead Hospital in Sydney, Collins Place in Melbourne and Canberra's new Parliament House. Overseas projects include the Asian Development Bank in Manila, and the Torus Nuclear Fusion project in the United Kingdom.
He is currently President of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. He was the architect of the Institution's Corporate Plan, and his active leadership has increased the Institution's influence in public policy issues.
