Biography at time of election

In the sixteen years Gilmour has been in Australia he has established an enviable reputation in marine biology; more importantly, he has achieved a position of pre-eminence in an understanding of the marine environment and those factors, natural and extraneous, which influence its welfare.

This reputation extends overseas.
Gilmour substantially responsible for development of aquatic ecological research in three major areas of activity:- Port Phillip Bay Environment Study Western Port Bay Environment Study Heated Effluent Study - Robson's Bay.

Has developed and leads a research team - Marine Pollution Studie·s Group - 22 scientists, 48 support staff.

Has been actively involved in fostering the level of professionalism in
the science and technology of marine research.

Has contributed substantially to conferences in Australia and overseas by invitation.
Specialist Member of Technical
Committee on Water Quality, Australian Water Research Council.
Editorial Advisory Board of two international pollution journals; one Annual Review.

Active on Council; twice President, Australian Marine Sciences Association.
Etc.
