Emeritus Professor Simmons is an outstanding innovator, mentor and role model for young women in engineering. She has had successful careers in both industry and academia and is one of the leading experts in Australia and prominent internationally in medical device technology innovation and commercialisation. For nearly 20 years with the Nucleus Group, she was involved with the development, commercialisation and distribution of a range of novel medical devices and technologies. At UNSW, she headed the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering and the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering prior to her appointment as Provost.
