Biography at time of election

Tony Fane is Australia's foremost academic research leader in membrane technology. He is one of the founding Directors of the UNESCO Centre for Membrane Science and Technology, a Commonwealth Special Research Centre.

His accomplishments include;
1. knowledge in membranes;
2. awarded Whitten Medal (ICh??mE) for 'Developments in Membrane Technology';
3. high international profile, Editorship of prestigious Journal of Membrane Science, invited Plenary, Keynote speaker at international conferences national and international research projects
4. close involvement in research and development to the formation of Memtec Ltd.
5. collaborative outcomes with Australian industry, i.e. patent (pending) for new soda ash process, commercialisation of automatic monitoring system, two major water reclamation demonstration projects, over 200 papers (over 100 of which are internationally refereed) contributing to basic knowledge in membranes
6. has demonstrated outstanding service to the community through his involvement with professional societies
