Biography at time of election

Professor Basten's interests lie at the interface between basic and applied aspects of Immunology.

He has made significant contributions to our knowledge of regulation
of immune responses, membrane receptors on lymphocytes, the nature and clinical usage of Transfer Factor, and the immune system in aging.

He has 72 publications to his credit and has presented over 50 papers at meetings.

His unit has served as a focus for training postgraduate students from a variety of disciplines in the application of immunological techniques and ideas to the study and treatment of diseases such as multiple sclerosis, allergies, cancer and autoimmune diseases.
