Arthur Lowery is a scientist, engineer and innovator, who has taken his fundamental research on modelling photonic devices to a global market. Major communications companies and universities now use his products to support their innovation.

Arthur's fundamental innovations in modelling semiconductor lasers enabled researchers to design and simulate complex optical circuits on a PC. From this work he co-created Virtual Photonics Pty Ltd, which now supports research and product innovation in over 150 companies and 130 universities.

Recently, he has used his own PDA software to co-invent new methods of upgrading optical fibre communications systems. This work won the 2006 Peter Doherty Prize for Innovation.
