Biography at time of election

Inglis is Australia's pre-eminent metrologist. He is internationally acclaimed for fundamental contributions to advancement of electrical standards, particularly those relating alternating-current electrical quantities to SI units. Through leadership of Australia's National Measurement Laboratory, Inglis has enhanced the reputation of Australian standards, nationally and internationally. Nationally, he championed reliable measurement and laboratory accreditation to the benefit of trade, commerce and community. Regionally, the Asia Pacific Metrology Programme has under his leadership become a leading international metrology organisation. Recognition of his major contributions to worlwide measurement resulted in Inglis' election as Vice-President of CIPM, the international body responsible for coordination of measurement.
