For over 30 years barry Sanders has made wastewater treatment and the associated fields of water treatment and water pollution control his speciality. In his career he has shown boldness and confidence in introducing new ideas, some from abroad and some of his own into practical applications. His authority in his fields is now recognised throughout Australia and internationally.

International recognition has been demonstrated by the Bedell Award which he recieved from the Water Environment Federation of USA, and by the honour of Life Membership of the International Water Services Association.
