Biography at time of election

Brian Haynes has made remarkable technical contributions in providing the theoretical underpinnings of fundamental processes in combustion and heat transfer that have had a major impact on engineering practice. These contributions are especially significant for: design of heat exchangers, control of nitrogen oxide emissions, formation of combustion generated aerosols (soot and air toxics), and modelling of carbon oxidation. The understanding he has provided has been applied to design and modification of industrial processes and equipment, by him and by others, often using his computer programs as a means of technology transfer. He has impeccable academic credentials and an outstanding international reputation.
