Biography at time of election

Dr Charles Butt, a recognised world-leading geochemist, has had a profound influence on mineral exploration practice across the world. His research and that of the teams he has led have produced knowledge and methods that are widely and successfully used in mineral exploration. His research, for example, led to a new, innovative approach to exploration called calcrete geochemistry, which has directly contributed to the discovery of numerous new gold deposits in Western Australia, and most significantly, has opened up large areas of South Australia including the discovery of the Challenger gold deposit brought into production in 2003 (Dominion Mining).
