Dr Mallett has an outstanding record within the food industry in Europe leading the research and development of new technology and its successful commercial application in a range of highly profitable new products.

His management achievements include the design and implementation of a new multidisciplinary team-based innovation system, which has been widely adopted.
Since joining CSIRO at senior management level in 1994, he developed and advocated the new CSIRO matrix structure currently in place, brought about substantial improvement in the alignment of its agribusiness research activities with the needs of industry, and introduced major efficiencies in the use of resources.
