Following an impressive career in the *SECV, Research and Development Department reaching the position of Principal Material Scientist.

He was appointed the Executive Director, CRC for Power Generation from Low Rank Coal in 1993. In this role he has established the CRC as a world leader in R & D on low rank coals; he has helped to ensure the future acceptance of Victorian brown coal resources for power generation in the face of increasing community concerns over greenhouse gas emissions, and has caused a renewal of interest in education in the industry.

The CRC involves the co-ordination of over 110 researchers in 3 Universities and the CSIRO Division of Minerals; it includes the power generators in Victoria and South Australia; 3 Industrial Companies and the Victorian Strategic Research Foundation.
