The Australian Electricity Supply Industry has been transformed from State owned enterprises to a competitive National Electricity Market comparable with the world's best. David Croft has been at the forefront of this highly successful transformation. He was Convenor of the Five State Joint Committee which prepared the first National Grid Protocol in 1991, leading many complex and sensitive negotiations. He convened the Regulation Working Group whose recommendations now form the basis of all regulatory arrangements in the National Electricity Market.

David Croft was appointed Chief Executive of Pacific Grid in 1994 and its successor TransGrid in 1995, leading both with distinction and integrity. TransGrid is now a profitable State owned organisation with an enviable reliability record exceeding international norms and acknowledged as one of the leading HV transmission companies.
