Em. Professor David Lindsay AO FTSE Emeritus Professor of Agriculture

Current as of 06/06/2023

I still lecture and give workshops to early career scientists on communicating science. I strongly believe this to be a grossly underrated facet of scientific training in Australia and it receives much less attention than it deserves in the debate about STEM.

Biography at time of election

Lindsay's contributions include three fields - teaching, research and administration. He has taught a number of subjects in animal production to veterinary and agricultural undergraduates at the Universities of Sydney and Western Australia.

He has developed a course in communications and scientific writing for graduate students which is currently being published as a book.

His research has been a successful combination of field and laboratory studies, in Australia 1 France and U.S.A., in reproduction and nutrition.

He has administered the University of Western Australia Department of Animal Science and. Production since 1976 and has had two terms as Dean of Agriculture.

However, his major contributions to technology in Agriculture arise from his capacity to apply basic knowledge to agricultural production. He and the team he leads have been highly successful in opening up opportunities for improved technology in the sheep industry, and in encouraging and enabling farmers to improve efficiency in their own industries.
