Biography at time of election

Marshall is an outstanding agricultural scientist who has made significant and enduring
contributions to Australian science. His research, both strategic and applied, has been
world class. The economic benefits to Australian agriculture of the work he has
conducted or directed has been substantial. Marshall initiated the program in CSIRO
which led to the development of the new edible oil linseed crop, Linola. He has led the
two University winter cereal breeding programs whose varieties occupy about 40 per
cent of the Australian crop. He has achieved wide recognition in Australia, the USA
and in the international agricultural research centers for his population genetics
research and management skills. He would be an active member of ATSE.
