Dr Elisa Mokany is a biotechnology changemaker and molecular innovator whose work has advanced the field of infectious disease diagnostics and antimicrobial resistance detection. As a founder and scientific leader at SpeeDx, she has driven the development and commercialisation of novel molecular diagnostic technologies, now translated into fully approved products adopted across international markets. Her innovations enable more precise, rapid and scalable diagnostic solutions, supporting informed clinical decision-making and improved patient outcomes globally. Her breakthroughs have contributed significantly to strengthening Australia’s position in precision diagnostics and to global efforts addressing antimicrobial resistance. Dr Mokany also contributes her expertise to accelerate antimicrobial stewardship through advisory roles with the AMR Hub and CARB-X. She has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation in 2022 and the Clunies Ross Award for Innovation in 2020.
