Dr Fitt has made significant contributions in insect ecology and integrated pest management supporting the development of the Australian cotton industry. His research on regional population dynamics, phenology, and movement of helicoverpa specia, key pests of Australian agriculture, underpins management strategies now in use for conventional and transgenic cottons. The work has wide application in research and management of these pests in multi-cropping systems.
