Biography at time of election

Dr Pace has made extensive contributions to the food, biotechnology, and medical device industries in Australia and overseas. In Europe he established a factory for the technically difficult production of xanthan gums for a joint venture betweeen Tate & Lyle and Hercules Inc. In Australia he established the first commercial production of intra-ocular lenses for Intra-Ocular Laborattories Pty Ltd, and as Chief Executive of Bellara Medical Products, pioneered the commercial development of implantable blood flow control devices.
He maintains close links with Academia and currently holds honorary research staff positions at the Universities of New South Wales and Queensland. He has published over 30 research papers, reviews, and patents, and co-authored the book "In Search of Health and Fitness" (Weldon 1985).
Dr Pace serves on several committees of Government and Professional bodies. Currently he is a member of the Scientific Steering Committeee and the Discretionary Grants Committee of the Department of Industry, Technology and Commerce. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers National Committee on Biological Process Engineering.
