The candidate is considered to have met the criteria for election to Fellowship by reason of his achievements in technological science and engineering, specifically in the metallurgical and chemical industries.

He has shown outstanding individual achievement and leadership, by attacking problems of technological importance, initiating and carrying out investigations which add to basic knowledge, and then applying the results directly to Australian industrial practice.

One of his most significant achievements is the invention and application of the Jameson flotation cell for coal and mineral processing. He was responsible for all stages of development, from the conception of the original idea; the conduct of basic research, development and demonstration; the design and construction of prototypes and full-scale plant; and final application and acceptance in industry.
