Greg Ayers has shown exemplary leadership in atmospheric science for the benefit of Australian industry and community. He has been instrumental in fostering strong links between CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology, Australian universities and with State and Commonwealth Governments. In particular, his instigation of the development of a united Australian effort for 'next generation' climate and Earth systems modelling has demonstrated foresight and leadership in atmospheric and marine science, and increased interagency collaboration significantly. His atmospheric science career, focusing on acid deposition and precipitation chemistry, has gained him international recognition, and high regard from industry and policymakers.
