Biography at time of election

Professor Coster is an eminent biophysics researcher with a strong background in commercial developments. He was Foundation Professor of Biophysics at UNSW, set up the UNESCO Centre for Membrane Science and Technology, and the biotechnology company FuCell. Prof. Coster has an international reputation for his work on cell characterisations and manipulations using electric fields. He pioneered the area of impedance spectroscopy and developed a new, precise instrument which is now being commercialised in partnership with a German company. He has recently been appointed by the University of Sydney to lead a new cross-university initiative on bioengineering and biophysics.
