Mr D'Assumpcao is highly regarded in Australia and international
defence science and engineering communities for his creativeness,
judgement and achievements, over a period of two decades. They cover such diverse topics as underwater acoustics, signal processing and systems engineering.

He has played a major role in the research and development leading to
the introduction into service. of the BARRA sonobuoy system for detecting submarines, jointly developed in Australia and the U.K.

This large project, an extremely challenging one, uses advanced
technology, is highly successful and is acknowledged to have made a major contribution to undersea warfare. There are substantial export contracts for BARRA.
