Biography at time of election

Mr. Hugh Matheson MORGAN, Managing Director of Western
Mining Limited, has had a distinguished career as a
leader of one of Australia's largest, and most successful technology-based organisations.
Much of the technology/exploration-based growth and expansion of this company has occurred in the fourteen years during which Hugh Morgan was a Member of the unusually small team of Executive Directors of that company and the overall success of its technological drive is a credit to Mr. Morgan's support and initiatives.
Mr. Morgan has made many direct contributions to science
and technology such as : -
Leadership in science, as a Part-Time Member of the CSIRO's Executive(1978-1983)
CSIRO's Executive (1978-1983)
Promotion of collective industrial research (precompetitive research) as Councillor and Member of the Executive Committee of the Australian Mineral Industries Research organisation
Member of the Executive Committee of the Australian Mining Industry Council
Director of a number of leading technology based Australian Mining companies (see CV, e.g. Alcoa,North Brokan Hill, South Broken Hill,Central Norseman)
and as a supporter of associations of scientists and technologists and or learned organisations such as : -
Ian Clunies Ross Foundation (councillor, Chairman since 1985); The Academy's of Technological Sciences and Engineering promotion of technology in its book 1788-1988, Technology
in Australia); the Australian Academy's of Science Science and Industry Forum (1979-83).
Hugh Morgan's contributions to industry have been recognised by his appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia for contributions to the mineral industry and to the arts and by his appointment as a Fellow of the Australia Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
