Dr Gould has made a major contribution to the application of science and technology in the minrals industry primarily under his management and high level, visionary leadership in exploration and minerals processing and associated R&D. Through his management, world-class greenfields mineral deposits were identified at Century(zinc) and Sepon(gold-copper), and major technological breakthroughs were achieved in zinc smelting and bauxite mining.

He led and actively supported others in new environmental initiatives at CRA, Normandy, the Minerals Council of Australia, and ACMER, with the success of these initiatives leading to self regulation, application of new rehabilitation technologies and better community acceptance of mining.
