Biography at time of election

Jim Galvin has an impeccable background in a broad range of mining and research sectors. He is internationally recognised as a mine manager, innovator, mining engineering academic and consultant, particularly in the area of mine safety. He revitalised Mining Engineering at UNSW by leading and recruiting staff to pursue applied research which increased the research income from industry and Government significantly. He integrated the School of Mining Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering with great perception. He also chairs a number of senior enquiries into mine disasters. Jim has also been the major consultant to BHP Billiton on Health, Safety and the Environment.
