Biography at time of election

John Gilmour has made outstanding contributions to laboratory accreditation. He has raised the competence and credibility of Australia's measurement and testing services, which are essential to the interface between technology and society.

As Chief Executive of Australia's national accreditation organisation, NATA, he has expanded its scope to fields such as medical, forensic and veterinary testing and its membership to over 2,500 laboratories.

Internationally he has played a leading role in harmonising accreditation
procedures and in developing mutual recognition agreements to assist
governments in removing testing-related barriers to trade. From 1996-98 he was the foundation chairman of the International Laboratory Accreditation
Cooperation (ILAC).
