John Ralph's distinguished career saw him rise from a very junior position at Broken Hill to the leadership of a major Australian resources group
(CRA Limited), Internationally recognised for his development of management theory he used his management skills to increase the application and efficiency of technology in CRA. His determination to keep the company competitive through building on its scientific and technological foundations was reflected in the amount and variety of research undertaken throughout the Group. He has been a strong advocate for improving the status of science and technology in industry in general and, in particular, is known for his concern that young Australians get the best possible scientific education. He has given generously of himself to many community causes and his membership of the Academy would contribute valuable insights to its deliberations.
