Outstanding innovative leadership in government in guiding and implementing policy relating to science and technology and the promotion of efficient, competitive technology based industries in Australia and their globalisation.
Recent achievements include: * a major change in NSW Government policy and funding attitude towards science and technology infrastructure and the role of Co-operative Research Centres, leading to the commitment, to date, of $4 million to the development, through the CRC's, of university-industry research and development and training linkages in NSW; and
* the British Telecom decision to base its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Sydney with $320 million flow on benefits to NSW in leading-edge telecommunications technology transfer and research and development in industry and NSW universities.
