Dr John Schubert has had a profound effect on the practice of engineering and engineering management in Australia.
In his early career, he led the innovative team that designed a novel cryogenic process for gas processing, subsequently built at Esso Australia's Longford plant, and now treating much of the gas from the Bass Strait field.
In positions ranging from Technical Manager (1977) to Chairman and Managing Director (1988) of Esso Australia Ltd., he has been responsible for a major change in technical direction which has seen Esso Australia achieve world leadership in low­cost and innovative monotower platforms for off-shore oil recovery, the post-fabrication strengthening of off-8hort1 platforms, the use of molecular sieves in gas processing and the treatment of aqueous effluent at the platform site.
