Biography at time of election

Dr. John Huntington is an internationally recognised expert on the geological and mining uses of remotely sensed data.

Over a period of 22 years , he has been the major contributor to the adoption and understanding of the geological applications of remote sensing by the Australian exploration community.

His research into the applications of remote sensing to geology, invariably in conjunction with mining companies, has had wide industrial impact, and led to his sharing of the Australia Prize for 1995 for "outstanding contributions to science and technology promoting human welfare".

His work has led to many instrumental innovations by the mining industry, and his concept of the Aries-1 Mineral Mapping Satellite has received world wide support.
