Dr Ken Michael has been involved in the science and practice of engineering during his career. He has academic and professional qualifications of high standing.
As a practising design engineer he has applied his extensive experience and expertise to raising the level of sophistication in the analysis and design of complex structures.
As Commissioner of Main Roads he has restructured Main Roads Western Australia to be more responsive to the introduction of new technologies and practices and to recognise the separate roles of the specialist and the technical manager. He has been and continues to be the driving force behind the implementation of Quality Management to support his organisation initiatives.
His achievements have extended beyond Main Roads through groups such as the Institution of Engineers, Australia and AUSTROADS. His talents and expertise have recently been recognised by his appointment as First Delegate for Australia to the Permanent International Association of Road Congresses (PIARC) - a world body established in 1908. He is now a member of the World Executive Committee.
