Biography at time of election

Dr. Frost has over a 15-year period led the research, development and demonstration program that created the new technology for Australia's first magnesium smelter.

As CSIRO Research Manager, he oversaw the early laboratory work on innovative processing technologies for value-added products from Australia's extensive magnesite mineral deposits.

In 1991 he moved to the newly formed AMRDP, and thence to the Australian Magnesium Corporation, to direct development and commercialisation of novel technology for producing magnesium. Further R&D and a $48 million demonstration plant proved the technology. AMC has now raised $1. 7 billion for a 90000 tpa magnesium smelter - the largest in the world. Construction starts in 2002.
