Biography at time of election

Dr. Margaret Hartley's career has shown exemplary contributions and leadership of activities overseeing the regulation of chemicals in Australia. Under her directorship the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) instigated a regulatory scheme that was both pragmatic from an industry point of view while protecting the interests of the community. The reviews she conducted found their way into worksafe and other regulations. The Priority Existing Chemicals were selected from a list of chemicals that had never been assessed previously and are now listed on the Australian Inventory of Chemical Substances (AICS). She is recognised internationally for her work.
