Biography at time of election

Knackstedt has pioneered the study of real-world materials in three-dimensions via a two-pronged approach: sophisticated structural measurements with state of the art X-ray tomography and numerical modeling. His work has freed material and earth scientists from the log-jam due to overly simplistic models, that fail to capture essential topological and geometric features of real world materials, from biological skeletons, to rocks and paper. His pioneering work in this emerging field has had a substantial impact on a number of scientific disciplines. The work has had major implications to industrial problems and proven commercial applications in global oil and gas industry.
