Biography at time of election

The candidate has made an outstanding contribution to the field of foundation engineering, particularly in the offshore arena, through the development and publication of design-orientated methods of analysis. These include (a) original solutions for the elastic response of pile foundations under axial, lateral and torsional loading; (b) a new method, now adopted internationally, for assessing the axial capacity of piles in clay; (c) a computer-based algorithm for assessing the fatigue performance of piles grouted into offshore calcareous sediments; ( d) closed-form plasticity solutions for the lateral capacity of piles in clay. He has also established the leading experimental research group in geomechanics in Australia.
