Biography at time of election

Wahlqvist is generally regarded as Australia's leading public health nutritionist. His research and writings (over 400 scientific papers and 20 books) have been a major contribution to nutrition science and education. He has successfully applied a multidisciplinary approach with a broad range of technologies. He collaborated with the food industry to produce soy linseed bread. His many community, state, national and international initiatives include nutrition being added to the curriculum for medical students in Australia and overseas. He is currently President of the International Union of Nutrition Sciences (IUNS) with responsibilities to WHO and FAO. He plays a key role in food regulation and policy on a global level.
