Veterinarian (qualified 1972) specialised in immunological research with a focus on exotic and pandemic diseases. Worked at the Pirbright Laboratory UK, before joining the UN managing development projects is some 150 countries. Subsequently moved to Australia as Director of the Australian Animal Health Laboratory - a large high containment facility in Geelong Victoria. A pioneer of the One Health movement. Currently Board Chair of ILRI.

Biography at time of election

Professor Martyn Jeggo is recognised nationally and internationally for veterinary laboratory diagnosis and research. He developed an international system for veterinary laboratory accreditation and developed and managed laboratory networks, supporting the global eradication of rinderpest, and other livestock disease control programmes delivering significant economic benefits. Since 2002, he has managed the redevelopment of the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL), securing $90 million for infrastructure and, with colleagues, establishing AAHL as a leading global research institute. He has been a leader in the development of the global 'One Health? initiative and Australia's role in it to minimise the impact of zoonotic diseases.
