Throughout a distinguished and multi-faceted career, Matthew has made major contributions to strategic investment, technology innovation and enterprise development across a diverse range of business sectors including clean energy, vision care, advanced manufacturing, higher education and engineering services. In 2003 he was awarded a Centenary of Federation Medal for contributions to applied science in Australia.Currently Matthew is Chair of the Victorian Clean Technology Fund, and Deputy Chair of the Solving Plastic Waste CRC and the ATSE Victorian Division.

Biography at time of election

During his early career at University and CSIRO, Matthew showed ability, dscipline and real creativity in tackling complex research problems involving high level chemistry and mathematics. Publications from that period were significant contributions to literature.

He later flourished in an industry environment, bringing solid science to bear in solving real-life problems. Matthew instituted very meaningful product and process changes at ICI and demonstrated the ability to communicate with and win the confidence of key individuals at all levels and in all parts of commercial organisaton.

At SOLA, he has made real scientific breakthroughs and helped take those and others to full commercialisation.
Matthew led the R&D organisation through sustained success and growth, with a constant focus on strengthening the organisation, building a team environment and building for the future.

He has tried to 'put something back' by joining various University Advisory Committees and Boards etc. His overall industrial chemistry experience, management strengths and broad-based desire to support the community make him an excellent nominee in the Applied Chemistry Division.
