Dr Neville Fletcher is distinguished both as a manager and a practitioner of applied scientific research.

Since 1983 he has been Director of the CSIRO Institute of Physical Sciences and most effectively redirecting the research of the Institute's eight Divisions towards more tangible needs of Australian industry and the community.

He has a distinguished personal record of applied research in semi­conductor device design, cloud physics, solid-state physics, and acoustics.

He previously held a personal chair in Physics at the University of New England, and has served as President of the Australian Institute of Physics, and Secretary (Physical Sciences) of the Australian Academy of Science.
