Dr Peter Robinson has displayed outstanding theoretical and experimen·tal qualities· as a materials scientist and engineer. He has contributed to original research in five quite distinct areas namely: internal friction and its significance in devising heat treatment schedules for sheet steels, thermodynamic measurements relating to intermetallic compounds., deformation of organic crystals, wear of hard materials, and pressure di:.e casting. As Head of the Production Technology Laboratory of the CSIRO Division of Materials Science in recent years, he has been very successful in promoting collaborative research relating to real industrial problems.
