Biography at time of election

Dr Sweatman is an acknowledged world leader in the scientific field of heavy vehicle interaction with the infrastructure and has also built a successful international technology business implementing research for the benefit of both the private and public sectors, including resource production, manufacturing industry, road freight transport, vehicle manufacture,. highway infrastructure and maintenance and road transport policy development.
Dr Sweatman's research has crossed the boundaries of traditional engineering disciplines and his work has been widely recognised in the fields of vehicle design and engineering, vehicle safety, road safety, highway condition monitoring, heavy vehicle standards and regulations and transport economics and policy. This multi-faceted recognition extends to the highest international level.
Dr Sweatman has pioneered the scientific evaluation of the impacts of commercial vehicle operation on highway systems and has provided new analytical tools for dealing with the vital socio-economic issues concerned with road freight transport. He has also successfully applied his research to innovative high-value industrial projects, both in Australia and overseas.
