Professor Rajeev Varshney has reshaped the global landscape of agricultural biotechnology, translating genomic insights into industry partnerships, scalable platforms and practical tools for major crops. His work has contributed to the development of high-yielding and climate-resilient crop varieties for Australia, Asia and Africa, delivering improved productivity and stability under challenging environments. In Australia, his breakthrough approach has created cost-effective and accessible genomic resources and breeding platforms for wheat, pulses and horticultural crops, accelerating precision breeding. His work has strengthened Australia's biotechnology capability, supporting grower profitability, sustainability and global competitiveness across the nation’s $100-billion agricultural sector. A strong advocate for STEM diversity, equity and inclusion, he has trained more than 450 scientists across the globe and raised the profile of Australian agricultural science on the world stage.
